XChat: Encrypted DMs Expand on X Platform

XChat Encrypted DMs Expanding to More Users

X is rolling out its encrypted direct message (DM) feature, XChat, to a broader audience. This expansion marks a significant step in providing enhanced privacy and security for users on the platform.

    What is XChat?

XChat provides end-to-end encryption for direct messages, ensuring only the sender and recipient can read the content. This protects conversations from potential eavesdropping or unauthorized access.

    Key Features of XChat

    • End-to-End Encryption: Messages are encrypted on the sender’s device and decrypted only on the recipient’s, preventing intermediary access.
    • Enhanced Privacy: Users gain greater control over their communication privacy.
    • Secure Communication: Ensures sensitive information remains confidential.

    Benefits of Using XChat

By using XChat, users can benefit from:

    • Increased security against hacking and data breaches.
    • Confidential conversations that remain private.
    • Peace of mind knowing their messages are protected.

Threads Ditches Instagram With New DM Inbox

Threads Gains Independence with Dedicated DM Inbox

Threads is stepping out of Instagram’s shadow. Meta recently launched a dedicated Direct Message (DM) inbox for Threads, signaling a move towards greater autonomy. This update lets users manage their messages directly within the Threads app, reducing reliance on Instagram.

    Why the Change?

Previously, Threads users had to switch to Instagram to send private messages. That felt clunky. However, now Threads finally offers a native DM inbox. Importantly, it lives within Threads itself and improves user workflow

    Why This Matters

First, users no longer need to leave the app. Instead, they can send messages directly via the envelope icon at the bottom toolbar theverge.com. So, communication stays in one place.

Moreover, this marks a move toward independence from Instagram. Consequently, Threads starts to establish its own identity and stand out

    DM Features & Limitations

    • It supports one‑on‑one DMs between followers or mutual Instagram followers aged 18
    • You can use preset emoji reactions, report spam, and mute chats
    • It lacks encryption—they’re not end‑to‑end secure
    • Later updates will enable group chats, message controls, and request folders

    A Step Toward Standalone Status

Threads has now surpassed 350 million monthly users Therefore, adding native DMs strengthens engagement. Plus, it helps the app feel more complete. Consequently, Threads becomes a direct competitor to X and Bluesky

    What’s Next?

Expect full global rollout soon. In future updates, we’ll see:

    Possibly encryption down the road

    Group messaging

    Spam filters

    “Who can message you” settings

    Expansion beyond follower‑only DMs

What’s New in Threads’ DM Inbox?

    • Dedicated Inbox: A separate space for all Threads-related messages.
    • Improved Efficiency: Manage conversations without switching between apps.
    • Enhanced User Experience: A more seamless and intuitive messaging experience within Threads.

    The Bigger Picture: Threads’ Evolution

This isn’t the first step Threads has taken to differentiate itself. Meta is actively developing new features exclusive to Threads, aiming to attract users seeking a distinct social media experience. With its own DM inbox, Threads carves out its unique space in the social media landscape.
